Festive favourites at Smithdon concert

Hunstanton music lovers are invited to get into the Christmas spirit with a free concert full of festive favourites at the Town Hall, courtesy of Smithdon High School.

Our Annual Christmas Concert takes place at 6pm on Thursday, December 12 and features a wide range of seasonal songs and carols performed by our choir and Year 8 rock band.

Around 50 students from Years 7 to 11 will be taking part in the event, which is expected to attract an audience of up to 200 people.

“The students will be performing a selection of Christmas songs throughout the night,” said organiser Andrea Barnes, Music Lead at Smithdon.

“One of our highlights is always our Year 8 band, The Unknown, who will be performing multiple songs. In addition, we have our school choir singing many songs throughout the evening.”

“We have had a Christmas Concert every year in some way since I began at the school seven years ago,” she continued.

“The event is special, as it welcomes all people to come together. Whether they are part of our school community or the wider community, all people can come together under one roof to celebrate the holidays.

“It is an amazing opportunity for our students to display their fabulous talent and to build their confidence, performing for a group of people who want them to succeed.

“This is an unticketed event, as we want it to be open to all in the community. We do accept donations, however, supporting future performances at Smithdon.”

Our musical talents also helped to kick off the Christmas countdown, with The Unknown playing at the ceremony for the switching on of Hunstanton’s Christmas lights. They were joined by the cast of this year’s musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, who gave a sneak preview of the show, which was taking place later that week.

“We regularly take part in the Winter and Summer Carnivals in Hunstanton,” added Mrs Barnes.

“It was a good opportunity to get our show out there, and to invite people to come and see it, and it was good for the community to see all of the good things that are happening at the school, while spreading some Christmas cheer.”

The Smithdon Christmas Concert takes place at 6pm on December 12 at Hunstanton Town Hall, with free entry.
